In September 1800, Winchester Presbytery organized the congregation worshipping in Old Stone Church as the Presbyterian Church in Winchester, under the leadership of its first pastor, the Rev. Dr. William Hill. There were forty founding members of the congregation, including Mrs. Daniel Morgan, wife of Revolutionary War hero General Daniel Morgan. In 1841, the congregation built a “lecture room” – now the sanctuary – on Loudoun Street. This “lecture room” marked the beginning of a permanent home for First Presbyterian Church!
